The ubiquitous presence of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) in the environment is an undeniable serious concern due to their higher persistence extensive use agricultural production. This review highlights sources fate MPs NPs soil uptake, translocation, physiological effects plant system. We provide current snapshot latest reported studies with majority literature spanning last five years. draw attention potential risk modern agriculture on growth development. also highlight uptake transport pathways roots leaves via different exposure methods plants. Conclusively, practices, climate changes (wet weather heavy rainfall), organisms play a major role transporting soil. are more prone enter cell walls as compared MPs. Furthermore, transpiration pull dominant factor translocation plastic particles. have negligible negative biochemical indicators. Overall, there dire need establish long-term for better understanding associated risks mechanisms realistic scenarios safe functions.

Microplastics are small plastic particles that come from the degradation of plastics, ubiquitous in nature and therefore affect both wildlife humans. They have been detected many marine species, but also drinking water numerous foods, such as salt, honey organisms. Exposure to microplastics can occur through inhaled air. Data animal studies shown once absorbed, micro- nanoparticles distribute liver, spleen, heart, lungs, thymus, reproductive organs, kidneys even brain (crosses blood–brain barrier). In addition, transport operators persistent organic pollutants or heavy metals invertebrate organisms other higher trophic levels. After ingestion, additives monomers their composition interfere with important biological processes human body cause disruption endocrine, immune system; a negative impact on mobility, reproduction development; carcinogenesis. The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has affected not only health national economies environment, due large volume waste form discarded personal protective equipment. remarkable increase global use face masks, which mainly contain polypropylene, poor management led worsening microplastic pollution, long-term consequences be extremely devastating if urgent action is taken.

Various recycling technologies have been developed to deal with plastic problems, but they face considerable economic and technological challenges in practice. An attractive alternative is upcycling, which aims dig out the embedded value incentivize large-scale valorization of wastes. The degradation nonrecoverable wastes another necessity treat omnipresent pollution. This review presents an overview on conversion toward value-added products catalytic Based examination traditional products, we summarize state-of-the-art design development high-value high-performance fuels, chemicals, materials. Subsequently, highlight advances plastics environmentally benign or degradable mineralization into carbon dioxide water. We conclude our perspective ongoing challenge opportunities.

Plastics play an important part in every sector of economy all over the world due to their extensive use agriculture, building and construction, health consumer goods. They are backbone many industries because they used manufacturing different products including defense materials, sanitary wares, tiles, plastic bottles, artificial leather other household items. also packaging food items, pharmaceuticals, detergents, cosmetics. Excessive plastics poses a serious threat ecosystem human life on planet. accumulation land sea has aroused interest degrade these polymers. There is need adequate biodegradable methods order reduce burden from environment. In overcome associated environmental problems, understanding interaction between microbes polymers prime importance. Many living organisms but predominantly microorganisms have evolved strategies survive plastics. The present review focuses types basis thermal nature, degradation biodegradation types, degradable plastics, characterization biodegradation, factors affecting biodegradation. Plastic bioremediation potential make propitious for green chemistry eliminate harmful ecosystem.

Recently, studies on microplastics (MPs) have increased rapidly due to the growing awareness of potential health risks related their occurrence. The first part this review is devoted MP occurrence, distribution, and quantification. MPs can be transferred from environment humans mainly through inhalation, secondly ingestion, and, a lesser extent, dermal contact. As regards food web contamination, we discuss microplastic presence not only in most investigated sources, such as seafood, drinking water, salts, but also other foods honey, sugar, milk, fruit, meat (chickens, cows, pigs). All literature data suggest not-negligible human exposure above-mentioned routes. Consequently, several research efforts been assessing risks. Initially, toxicological were conducted with aquatic organisms then experimental mammal animal models cell cultures. In latter case, effects observed at high concentrations (polystyrene common benchmark) for short time. Further must performed assess real consequences contamination low prolonged exposure.
