Plastic film mulching is an important agricultural technology that plays a critical role in increasing crop yield and maintaining soil moisture. However, long-term coverage untimely recovery lead to large amount of plastic residues soils. This decomposes into smaller plastics over time, which can reduce sowing quality, destroy the structure, have adverse effects on organisms. In this study, seasonal variations correlations microplastics cadmium (Cd) Wuxi farmland soils Taihu Lake, China, were investigated spring winter. The mainly form films, fibers, debris transparent black color. Microplastic abundance reached 890 particles/kg soil, with majority (>72.5%) being 0-500 μm. Polyethylene main polymers, accounting for >54.65%. addition, winter was significantly correlated Cd, indicating heavy metals present risk coexposure Furthermore, response situ earthworms microplastic-Cd pollution revealed be used as vector transfer environment may accumulate bodies Multiomics techniques demonstrated bacterial community structure dysbiosis metabolic changes under microplastic metal-contaminated earthworm casts intestines higher than samples. These results reveal potential risks from entering metal ecosystems.

Microplastics are a big and growing part of global pollution, which has aroused increasing concern in recent years because their large amount, wide distribution, adverse effects. can sorb various pollutants from aquatic environments act as vectors pollutants. Most studies mainly focused on the virgin microplastics. However, microplastics be easily colonized by microorganisms, form biofilm, will influence behaviors potential risks The formation biofilm its effects properties have been studied before, but sorption transport behaviors, for pollutants' transfer not reviewed. In this paper, role biofilm-developed was thoroughly analyzed summarized. First, microplastics, compositions microorganisms influencing factors, property changes after attachment Second, onto is discussed. Third, vector analyzed. We concluded that could provide unique substrates microorganisms. Biofilm-developed more than ones, then to introduce attached organisms.

In the more than 100 years since invention of plastics, various plastic polymers have been developed that exhibit different characteristics and widely used in production life. 2020 alone, nearly 400 million tons plastics were produced globally. However, while such as polyethylene brings us convenience, it also threatens environmental sustainability human health. Due to insufficient recycling efficiency, millions pollutants accumulate terrestrial or marine environments each year. Polyethylene is elastic, chemically stable, non-biodegradable, traditional disposal methods include landfilling incineration. These are costly, unsustainable, further increase burden on environment. Therefore, recent research has increasingly focused biodegradation polyethylene. this work, we briefly summarized polyethylene's properties toxicity. We reviewed advances with a summary abiotic methods. Finally, proposed brief direction study aspect toxicology industrial applications decomposition technology.
