Phosphorus (P) as an essential nutrient for life sustains the productivity of food systems; yet misdirected P often accumulates in wastewater and triggers water eutrophication if not properly treated. Although technologies have been developed to remove P, little attention has paid recovery from wastewater. This work provides a comprehensive review state-of-the-art removal science treatment. Our analyses focus on mechanisms, efficiencies, potential four typical treatment processes including precipitation, biological treatment, membrane separation, adsorption. The design principles, feasibility, operation parameters, pros & cons these are analyzed compared. Perspectives future research also proposed context paradigm shift sustainable technology.

Phosphorus is one of the most important macronutrients needed for growth plants. The fertilizer production market uses 80% natural, non-renewable phosphorus resources in form phosphate rock. depletion those deposits forces a search other alternatives, including biological waste. This review aims to indicate ways recover from biowaste, with particular emphasis on wastewater, sewage sludge, manure, slaughter or food A comparison utilized methods and directions future research based latest presented. Combining biological, chemical, physical thermal treatment appears be effective way wastewater sludge terms recovery. Hydrothermal, thermochemical, adsorption thermally treated adsorbents are characterized by high recovery rate (over 95%). For animal by-products waste, chemical seems optimal solution over 96%. Due its large volume relatively low content, resource that requires additional highest possible amount phosphorus. Pretreatment combined improve compressive evaluation crucial this area.
