Abstract In recent decades, quantum dots (QDs) with tunable bandgap, large absorption coefficient, high yield, multiexciton effect, and easy solution processing have unparalleled advantages in photoelectric conversion. Optoelectronic devices based on QDs of different composition made great progress. However, there is still a lack reviews comparing the optoelectronic application level semiconductor (SQDs), perovskite (PQDs), carbon (CDs), also rarely providing comprehensive summary photocatalysis. First, this review almost completely summarizes disadvantages common synthesis methods for QDs, especially pointing out importance optimization strategies preparing high‐quality such as ligand engineering, ion exchange, purification separation. Then, compositions SQD, PQD, CD, corresponding properties are introduced, respectively. Next, strengths weaknesses four structures compared detail. Finally, flourishing development various applications separately demonstrated, degree SQDs, PQDs, CDs to discover most suitable scenarios each. On these bases, bottlenecks opportunities put forwarded, hoping stimulate more breakthroughs field.
