ABSTRACT This study compared an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) with a multi-staged UASB (MS-UASB) to investigate the effects of loading shocks on digestion in both reactors. Both reactors were subjected five hydraulic/organic shocks, each lasting 3 days. During hydraulic shock highest organic rate (OLR) (OLR 24 g COD L−1 d−1), MS-UASB and ABR exhibited minimum effluent removal efficiency 90.9 73.0%, average methane concentrations decreasing 62.4 ± 0.9% 59.8 3.0%. Under 12 was 81.5 73.4%, 60.4 1.1% 58.6 0.8%. After phase, biomass concentration reached 159 130% ABR, respectively. The reason for improved operational stability is due presence solid/liquid/gas separator, which promotes formation granular sludge reduces washout. In addition, higher abundance syntrophic bacterium Candidatus cloacamonas, plays crucial role maintaining systems.

In view of the difficulty in obtaining membrane bioreactor (MBR) flux real time, considering disadvantage back propagation (BP) network predicting MBR flux, such as local minimum value and poor generalization ability model, this article introduces tent chaotic mapping standard sparrow search algorithm (SSA), which improves uniformity population distribution searching (used to optimize key parameters BP network). The (Tent-SSA-BP) fouling prediction model is established achieve accurate flux; compared BP, genetic (GA-BP), particle swarm optimization (PSO-BP), extreme learning machine(SSA-ELM), (SSA-BP), Tent (Tent-PSO-BP) models, it has unique advantages. Compared with before improvement, improved soft sensing reduces MAPE by 96.76%, RMSE 99.78% MAE 95.61%. accuracy proposed reaches 97.4%, much higher than 48.52% BP. It also other been greatly improved, some engineering reference value.

Climate change poses challenges to infrastructure resilience in Southeast Asia's flood-prone regions. This study identifies and evaluates strategies for enhancing through wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia. Using a mixed-method approach, we analyzed the case studies conducted quantitative assessments of flood mitigation efforts. Data were collected (2021–2024) site visits, interviews with key stakeholders, analysis historical performance data. involved statistical methods assessing their effectiveness comparative analyses across them. Singapore reduced areas by 30% using integrated WWTP technologies drainage systems, while Malaysia developed resilient networks WWTPs designed withstand extreme weather, preventing 85% contamination cases. Thailand combined green blue WWTPs, decreasing vulnerability 25%. Indonesia invested decentralized urban areas, increasing 40%. Nature-based solutions, such as ecological restoration, reduce flooding impacts 20%. The implications policymakers practitioners include need integrate advanced nature-based solutions bolster mitigate risks. offers insights into developing effective climate adaptation flood-vulnerable regions, emphasizing critical role resilience.
