Artificial light at night (ALAN) is a growing environmental issue associated with adverse health consequences, but the association low birth weight remains unknown. We aim to explore associations between outdoor ALAN and across 7,808 census tracts in California. use data from California Communities Environmental Health Screening Tool (CalEnviroScreen) tract level. VIIRS Nighttime Day/Night Band Composites Version 1 dataset within Google Earth Engine platform was used assess ALAN. Multivariable linear regression analyze data. Our findings showed that an interquartile range increase resulted of 0.42% (95% CI: 0.37, 0.46) rate on average, after adjusting for all potential covariates. The results demonstrate significant weight. These remained consistent sensitivity analyses.

BackgroundDementia is a neurological syndrome characterized by severe cognitive impairment with functional impact on everyday life. It can be classified as young onset dementia (EOD) in case of symptom before 65, and late (LOD). The purpose this study to assess the risk due light pollution, specifically outdoor artificial at night (LAN).MethodsUsing case-control design, we enrolled patients newly-diagnosed province Modena period 2017–2019 referent population from their caregivers. We geo-referenced address residence date recruitment, provided it was stable for previous five years. assessed LAN exposure through 2015 nighttime luminance satellite images Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). Using logistic regression model adjusted age, sex, education, calculated associated increasing exposure, namely using <10 W/cm2/sr reference considering ≥10-<40 intermediate ≥40 high respectively also implemented non-linear assessment spline model.ResultsWe recruited 58 EOD cases, 34 LOD cases 54 controls. Average levels overlapped controls, while showed higher levels. Compared lowest (OR = 1.36, 95% CI 0.54–3.39, but not category 1.04, 0.32–3.34). In contrast, positively ORs 2.58 (95% IC 0.26–25.97) 3.50 0.32–38.87) categories, respectively. analysis substantial lack association between EOD, almost linear although highly imprecise emerged LOD.ConclusionsAlthough precision estimates affected limited sample size design did allow us exclude presence residual confounding, these results suggest possible role etiology dementia, particularly its late-onset form.

Exposure to light at night (LAN) has been associated with multiple adverse health outcomes. However, evidence is limited regarding the impacts of LAN exposure on human inflammation. To examine association between real-ambient bedroom systemic inflammation and circadian rhythm inflammatory markers. Using data from a prospective cohort study Chinese young adults. At baseline, was measured portable illuminance meter; fasting blood sample for high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) assay collected. 3-year follow-up, 20 healthy adults (10 LANavg < 5 lx, 10 ≥ lx) were recruited same cohort; time-series venous samples sampled every 4 h over 24 h-cycle detection 8 Circadian markers assessed using cosinor analysis. average age 276 participants 18.7 years, 33.3 % male. Higher levels significantly increased hs-CRP levels. The only significant in inactive group (MVPA 2 h/d) but not physically active h/d). In addition, higher nighttime (LANavg disrupted rhythms (including rhythmic expression, amplitude phase) some cytokines balance indicators. increases disrupts Keep darkness may represent important strategies prevention chronic Additionally, people living community pollution, regular physical activity be viable option counteract negative

Rising energy costs and a desire for sustainability have led municipalities to implement measures such as reducing artificial public lighting at night (ALAN). However, under pressure from residents, some are being forced reverse their decision. Although important, the social relationship of individuals its impact on decisions reduce or modify is still little considered. This study examines how residents municipality in southern France perceive policy 1 a.m. 5 A survey 91 participants was used assess understanding positive (safety, nightlife…) negative (effects biodiversity, health…) impacts ALAN, attitudes towards measure, opinions regarding extension. The results indicate that who recognise ALAN more inclined support reduction (r = 0.56, p < 0.001; ß 0.44, t 3.12, 0.003), while those appreciate reluctant accept measure −0.57, −0.70, −5.30, 0.001). Hierarchical regression analysis revealed specific these lighting-off were main predictor (ß 0.60, 6.70, 0.001) than general beliefs about lighting. These suggest implementing policies requires balancing ecological considerations with expectations building trust between local authorities improve acceptance strategies. contributes scarce research positioning real projects even switch off demonstrates value studying

This qualitative study explores children's perceptions of sleep and habits. Using purposive sampling, in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with twelve generally healthy preschool children aged five six (seven girls, boys) undergoing typical development. ATLAS.ti was used to manage the data. Thematic analysis interview transcripts identified eight key themes: (1) Sleep behaviour, (2) Dreams, (3) Feelings upon waking, (4) Daytime functioning, (5) Facial appearance, (6) environment, (7) Bedtime routines, (8) resistance midnight awakenings. The findings suggest that young have a foundational understanding its associated Therefore, education programs should consider perspectives ensure information is relevant meaningful for them.
