Early life stages are pivotal to the functioning and resilience of ecological systems, displaying heightened vulnerability environmental changes exposure contaminants. Octocrylene (OC), an organic ultraviolet (UV) filter, its breakdown product benzophenone (BP) commonly found in aquatic environments, but their impact on keystone processes determining success or failure early marine organisms remains underexplored. This study aims assess impacts OC BP at environmentally realistic concentrations (1, 10, 100 µg.L−1), over a 24 h period, larvae Pacific oyster (Magallana gigas). A multiparametric approach was employed, examining DNA integrity, embryo–larval development swimming velocity. The results showed that integrity velocity were not affected by BP; however, both compounds increased developmental abnormalities D-shaped all tested. Considering robustness morphological parameters, often assumed as irreversible, critical influence survival, these findings suggest relevant may threaten larvae, potentially impacting population’s long-term stability and, ultimately, raising health issues.
