Except for aerosol loading, ocean acidification, and ozone layer depletion, six out of nine planetary boundaries have surpassed sustainability thresholds in recent years. The success a country's transitions circular economy depends on the green practices businesses organizations. This chapter documents that contribute to city among small enterprises different contexts Asia Africa. Using case studies from Nepal, South Africa, Malaysia, this identifies business models operations develop model Global South. outcome research will be scalable which can further applied across world.

Microplastic (MP) pollution, an emerging global change factor, disturbs the ecosystem functioning. Inland wetlands, providing important services, might be sink for MPs. Understanding distribution, source, and fate of MPs in inland wetland ecosystems is a prerequisite developing effective management strategy. Here, different types including river wetland, constructed lake were selected to explore pollution patterns therein. Results showed that abundance soil ranges from 532 4309 items/kg. Transparent, fibers, polyethylene terephthalate most common color, shape, polymer type MPs, respectively. The this study did not significantly remove was one main sinks had accumulated large amounts In addition, MP characteristics cluster analyses aquaculture, agricultural cultivation, domestic waste sources area. occluded particulate organic carbon content related abundance. conclusion, reveals special river-constructed-lake which would help better understand distribution source wetlands have implications subsequent control ecological restoration wetlands.

Indian inland aquatic ecosystems. Microplastics (MPs) have been identified as emerging contaminants, potentially impacting public and ecosystem health. This comprehensive review discusses the current state of knowledge on MP contamination mechanistic process understanding in It highlights gaps regarding data methodological differences sampling sample processing that can lead to contrasting results. Most studies reviewed here provided evidence water, sediment certain indicator species ecosystems at specific locations times. Significant seasonal variations concentrations for pre-, during post-monsoon periods. We found only a few considered inherent spatio-temporal variability concentrations, intricate interplay with hydrological key parameters has largely overlooked. However, order improve our how MPs are transported within these (e.g., river networks) decide potential pollution mitigation, it is imperative link concentration physico-chemical characteristics information such flow velocity or discharge. will provide loads help establish loading functions needed better understand impacts

Microplastics (MPs) have attracted considerable attention as one of the most remarkable food and drink pollutants in recent years. Disposable cups, which are widely used single-use containers, been suspected primary sources MPs found cold hot beverages. In this study, effect different exposure times (0, 5, 10 20 min) temperatures (4 °C, 50 °C 80 °C) on MP release from cups made four materials [polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyethylene (PE) coated paper expanded (EPS)] into water was investigated. The number ranged 126 p/L to 1420 p/L, while highest lowest counts were observed PP (50 for PE-coated 0 min), respectively. Washing with ultrapure prior use reduced by 52–65%. SEM images demonstrated abrasion surface disposable a result exposure. Intensities FTIR absorbance levels at some wavelengths decreased treatment, could be evidence abrasion. annual consumers calculated 18,720–73,840 consumption beverages cups. conclusion, level potential toxicity humans not yet fully known, study sheds light transferred
