Forecasts of a drastic increase in temperatures the coming decades are driving adoption design strategies and solutions to improve livability urban environments. Increasing attention is being paid thermal comfort open spaces by both designers researchers. Nature-based man-made devices outdoor during summer spreading, but effective, easy simulation support tools for this purpose still lacking, as most available software such ENVI-met or RayMan cannot model devices. As Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) one relevant comprehensive indicators Outdoor Thermal Comfort (OTC), study aims investigate PET variations different artificial shading systems propose simplified methodology assessing them through analytical simulations with software. When modeling elements, trick adopted associate cloud densities provided screens, thus overcoming gap that affects The procedure digitally tested covered courtyard case Bologna (Italy). Diverse options proposed textile screening materials have been compared, showing these reduce at least 1 °C PET-gauged stress. Beyond specific results, main outcome developed simulate sun-shading sail effects on OTC means RayMan, which can planning effective space summertime.
