Membrane fouling is the main challenge that limits ultrafiltration (UF) membrane long-term application. Coagulation, as an effective pretreatment method, not only reduce pollutants loaded on surface, but also transform membrane-pollutant contact into pollutant-floc reaction. Zircon (Zr) salts have drawn wide attention a novel metal-based coagulant because of its excellent coagulation performance. In present study, three types Zr coagulants zirconium tetrachloride (ZrCl4) and polyzirconium chloride (PZC), / Poly dimethyl diallyl ammonium (PZC/PDMDAAC) were estimated in terms removal organic mitigation fouling. Results showed PZC1.5/P2 presented best performance under acidic neutral conditions due to better bridging affinity sweeping ability. 8 mg/L dosage could effectively remove turbidity (98.27%) dissolved carbon (DOC) (59.04%) during process. Furthermore, pre-coagulation by induced transformation from cake filtration thoroughly intermediate blocking particulate matter would prevent reversible fouling-induced flux decline, whereas elimination was benefit for promoting UF efficiency mitigating irreversible Besides, Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (XDLVO) analysis foulants became more hydrophilic coagulated PZC1.5/P2, adhesion between surface greatly weakened. All improvement originated flocs structure contributed with improved normalize (J/J0) 0.50 0.75, larger decrease 82.27% 91.27%, respectively. More important, exhibited performances treatment actual water Wolf Mushan reservoir, which demonstrated Zr-based promising practical application purification.

The adherence of pathogenic microorganisms to surfaces and their association form antibiotic-resistant biofilms threatens public health affects several industrial sectors with significant economic losses. For this reason, the medical, pharmaceutical materials science communities are exploring more effective anti-fouling approaches. This review focuses on properties, structure-activity relationships environmental toxicity quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) and, as a subclass, ionic liquid compounds. Greener alternatives such QAS-based antimicrobial polymers biocide release, non-fouling (i.e., PEG, zwitterions), fouling release poly(dimethylsiloxanes), fluorocarbon) contact killing properties highlighted. We also report dual-functional stimuli-responsive materials. Given impacts in submerged surfaces, we emphasize importance less explored approaches marine industry developing efficient membranes for water treatment systems.

A novel composite flocculant (PCNF) was prepared using nano Fe3O4 as the condensed core, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na) binder, and polyferric sulfate (PFS). The results indicate that mass ratio of to PFS is key factor determining flocculation effect PCNF. When 1:3, Zeta potential value approximately -1.5 mV, indicating better removal algae through adsorption electroneutralization. resulting floc, characterized by negative charge a loose structure, forms filter cake layer easily backwashed on surface ultrafiltration membrane. This floc also creates strong electrostatic repulsion with membrane surface. Experimental demonstrate specific flux decreased 0.69, total relative pollution 0.33, proportion irreversible only 34.65%, all which were superior traditional like PACl. Through microinterface mechanism analysis, it concluded new PCNF flocculant, in combination algal matter, structure critical for mitigating caused high content natural water.
