The escalating prevalence of microplastics and nanoplastics in aquatic environments is a major challenge affecting the behavior reproductive health organisms while posing potential risks to human ecosystems. This review focuses on neurobehavioral changes toxicity MNPs zebrafish their relationships. At same time, caused by were studied, synergistic effects interaction these pollutants with other environmental contaminants explored. In addition, zebrafish, as model organism, provide valuable insights into subtle but important behavior, which critical for understanding success, suggesting that behavioral can serve an early biomarker toxicity. based classical endocrine disruptor models research methods, current status was reviewed, further indicated parameters be used effective rapid tool evaluate MNPs. However, methods rapidly assessing are still area exploration. To address limitations challenges scope research, this outlines future directions aim improving our impacts work aims inform targeted policies advance public strategies growing pollution.

Comparative microplastic (MP) data for cephalopods between oceans is scarce. Our aim was to quantify, characterise, and compare MPs in gills, digestive gland, mantle of chokka squid from the South Atlantic Ocean (SAO) Indian (IO) off coast Africa. African had more compared with other studies (means = 2.0 0.4 SAO IO mantle, respectively). Blue fibres were dominant. Identifiable polyethylene. Despite water having higher MP concentrations than SAO, concentrations. Dilution by growth likely reason lower Fibres shorter squid. However, we could not explain why fibre lengths both positively correlated. Squid may be best indicator marine MPs. The characteristics can used track stocks migrations.

Aggregation of human α-synuclein protein is regarded to be a key stage in the etiology Parkinson's disease and numerous other neurodegenerative illnesses. Microplastics pollution can potential agent promote various disorders. In this study, we have employed multispectroscopic analytical methods investigate binding interactions between polyethylene (PE-MPs), polyvinyl chloride (PVC-MPs), polystyrene (PS-MPs) microplastics, protein. Spectroscopic investigations using UV-vis absorption, circular dichroism, Fourier transform infrared indicated different alterations protein's secondary structures induced by formation protein-MP complex. This study suggests that PS-MPs are found most effective microplastic amyloidogenic oligomer emergence because their tiny size (100 nm).

Anthropogenic particles (APs) are widespread in the marine environment, but knowledge gaps remain regarding anthropogenic fibers. This study aimed to evaluate presence of APs, including natural and synthetic fibers, water column. A literature review on fibers Mediterranean seawater revealed that current sampling methods underdeveloped. Two were compared determine best approach for collecting fibers: a new in-situ pump (20 μm mesh filter) WP2 plankton net (200 μm). The was most effective method applied three areas Western Sea (Gulf Asinara, Capraia Island, Capo Carbonara). predominant characterized by μFTIR, cellulose polyester reflecting global textile fiber production. Asinara area impacted (average 393.7 items/m3). highlights ubiquitous column underscores need further investigation potential impacts biota.

Microplastic contamination poses a growing threat to marine ecosystems and human health, with impacts observed across all trophic levels. This study reviews 16 empirical articles extract data on the chemical composition morphological features of microplastic particles found in organisms. The analysis focuses herbivorous, omnivorous, carnivorous taxa, emphasizing polymer diversity accumulation patterns. Polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were most commonly detected polymers levels, fiber as dominant form. Polymer tended increase higher suggesting potential bioaccumulation. color shape further varied species, blue black fibers being frequent. findings underline need for consistent reporting reinforce importance integrating monitoring strategies.
