Cadmium (Cd) stable isotopes provide a novel technique to investigate the fate of Cd in environment, but challenges exist for tracing sources plants. We performed individual rice leaf and root exposures dry wet deposition using customized open-top chambers (OTCs) greenhouse field next smelter, respectively. The experiment also included control without "full" treatment. exposure experiments isotope signatures showed that leaves can directly take up atmospheric then translocate within plants other tissues, contributing 52–70% grains, which exceeded contribution (30–48%) by exposure. leaves, nodes, internodes, grains demonstrate roots preferentially from deposition, favor uptake deposition. is redistributed via allowing upward transport preventing downward roots. Leaves heavy (ΔCd114/110Leaf-Dust: 0.10 ± 0.02‰) retain light nodes further grains. These findings highlight as useful tracer quantifying when different isotopic compositions are sources.
