Thermal stratification has become more extensive and prolonged because of global warming, this change had a significant impact on the distribution patterns phytoplankton communities. However, response community structures assembly processes to thermal is not fully understood. We predicted that structure communities would be affected by among water layers associated with environmental condition changes, reflecting certain in temporal spatial scales. Realized niches are crucial in defining their optimal conditions and serve as valuable tools for predicting the phytoplankton dynamics relation to eutrophication, climate change, harmful blooms. However, previous studies have largely focused on marine ecosystems, leaving freshwater systems less studied. In this study, we elucidate patterns of community succession based niche characteristics Shanmei (SM) Reservoir, a drinking water source Quanzhou, Fujian Province. Additionally, variations were mainly explained by realized niche. SM total chlorophyll concentrations ranged from 252 24,008 ng/L. The was dominated Chlorophyta Cyanophyta, which consisted mostly Pseudanabaena Microcystis, especially summer. This dominance attributed wide breadth high mean temperature, nitrogen, dissolved reactive phosphorus. On other hand, Cryptophyta Bacillariophyta reached higher autumn winter, linked low temperature niches. Under multiple pressures change anthropogenic activities, Cyanophyta likely thrive environments characterized rising temperatures elevated nutrient concentrations. is particularly true buoyant cyanobacteria such Pseudanabaena, well-suited stratified layers induced temperatures. Therefore, incorporating bloom-forming species would contribute prevention management blooms, ultimately improving safety water.

The vertical distribution of phytoplankton plays a crucial role in shaping the dynamics and structure aquatic communities. In highly dynamic reservoir systems, water level fluctuations significantly affect physiochemical conditions community. However, specific effects on characteristics between mainstream tributary bay remain unstudied. This study investigated aspects density, biomass, α β diversity through monthly sampling over two years (Chang Jiang, CJ) (Xiang Xi, XX) Three Gorges Reservoir China. Phytoplankton density biomass were higher XX, indicating an increased risk algal blooms tributary. community CJ showed more stable species-environment relationships, lower Shannon index evenness index, suggesting relatively simple uniform among different layers. Conversely, XX greater differences layers (higher diversity), with significant negative correlations positive DO difference, dissolved silica (DSi) stratification. Peak as well high occurred during periods decreased levels strong stratification spring summer. A structural equation model complemented by path analysis revealed that decrease could increase either directly internal processes extended residence time or indirectly modifying DSi XX. Therefore, proposed quality management strategy for was to reduce implementing artificial mixing periods. Overall, this lies its comprehensive investigation both Reservoir, elucidating impact providing insights targeted strategies mitigate potential ecological impacts.
