Abstract Satellite‐based thermal infrared (TIR) land surface temperature (LST) is hindered by cloud cover and applicable solely under clear‐sky conditions for estimating urban heat island intensity (SUHII). Clear‐sky SUHII may not accurately represent all‐sky conditions, potentially introducing quantitative biases in assessing islands. However, the differences between SUHIIs their spatiotemporal variations are still poorly understood. Our analysis of over 600 global cities demonstrates that mostly higher than SUHII, particularly summer, daytime, precipitation‐rich regions. Besides, typically exhibits stronger seasonal diurnal contrasts especially located humid These discrepancies can be attributed mainly to increased missing LST data caused enhancement areas. findings highlight tendency observations overestimate providing valuable insights standardizing quantification

Abstract Accurately capturing the impact of urban trees on temperature can help optimize heat mitigation strategies. Recently, there has been widespread use remotely sensed land surface ( T s ) to quantify cooling efficiency (CE) trees. However, reflects emitted radiation from an object seen point view thermal sensor, which is not a good proxy for air perceived by humans. The extent CEs derived reflect true experiences residents debatable. Therefore, this study systematically compared -based CE (CE with in 392 European clusters. and were defined as reductions , respectively, every 1% increase fractional tree cover (FTC). results show that FTC substantial reducing most cities during daytime. at night, response increased appears be much weaker ambiguous. On average, cities, daytime reaches 0.075 °C % −1 significantly higher (by order magnitude) than corresponding 0.006 . In contrast, average nighttime are similar, both approximating zero. Overall, lower temperatures, but magnitude their effect notably amplified when using estimates situ measurements, important consider accurately constraining public health benefits. Our findings provide critical insights into realistic efficiencies alleviating through planting.

The thermal environment effect poses great threats to the sustainable development of cities. It is crucial identify priority areas for optimizing urban as a strategy mitigate this effectively. We developed comprehensive framework metrics evaluate community-scale outdoor comfort and built characteristics. This includes universal climate index green space morphology, utilizing large dataset meteorological data. Subsequent spatial econometric analysis pinpointed that have significant impact on comfort. Additionally, we applied methods supply–demand matching division determine key with imbalances areas. results showed substantial variability in among different community units old city Fuzhou, China. Seven building coverage ratio, patch density, shape index, etc. significantly influenced Among four identified relationships between comfort, 97 were categorized mismatch, 45 these highest priority. study provides scientific foundation devising more focused strategies optimize environment.

Assessing the urban residential environment quality (REQ) is essential for advancing sustainable development and enhancing residents’ living standards. Traditional REQ assessments rely on statistical data, prone to delays lacking holistic insight. This study takes blocks as analysis units conducted within area of Sixth Ring Road in Beijing. It synthesizes multi-source geospatial data devise a comprehensive framework assessing REQ, incorporating facets environmental health comfort, housing transportation convenience, city security, life convenience. Utilizing principle minimal relative informational entropy, this integrates Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) with entropy method determine weight each evaluative criterion. Subsequently, linear weighting technique employed ascertain scores criterion, thus facilitating detailed examination REQ. Finally, research probes into complex interrelation between assessed city’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) carbon emissions across varying scales. Findings reveal that (1) overall Beijing’s superior at center diminishes towards periphery. (2) The dispersion comfort security metrics relatively uniform, showing minor variations; however, marked disparity observed distribution metrics. (3) Regions characterized by higher GDP tend demonstrate levels Conversely, areas boasting higher-quality are more inclined exhibit increased emissions.

Urban growth is vast in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to economic development, and there a need consider liveability sustainable ecosystems for future urban expansion. Promising strategies sustainability focus on minimizing building’s effects environment improving residents’ quality of life, which important desert when confronting issues water climate change. Sustainable practices that impact livelihood people UAE include factors such as walkable areas, open space, policing, healthcare, education, housing, ensuring friendly transport enhance overall life residents region. Recognizing appreciating UAE’s cultural values crucial incorporating these aspects, allowing references nation’s character creating communal areas. The primary research included quantitative surveys three identified communities, composed fifty participants each, where findings indicate partial full compliance, with 85.7% indices being about public green space. Through this analysis, principles be trialed incorporated into development embrace ecology well inhabitants. To realize targets, proposed study adopted four-part approach. Initially, an analysis related studies concerning or Gulf area was carried out obtain quality-of-life factors. A total 6 dimensions 51 indicators were extracted from literature inform next stage. Subsequently, authors evaluated design chosen communities various cities indices. Consequently, conceptual redesign typical community made, illustrating improved sustainability. Lastly, survey respective facets planning architect environmental scientist cum economist conducted evaluate practicality design. This gives comprehensive picture how ecosystem concepts implemented context offers direction develop lively, context-specific, culturally attached, environments present day future.
