Nanoplastics (NPs) can cross cellular membranes and affect performance. This study aims to determine the effects of polystyrene NPs (PS-NPs, 44 nm) on gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) exposed for 14 days 100 μg/L PS-NPs. The results show that biometric indicators (weight, length, Fulton's condition factor, hepatosomatic index) were not affected after experimental exposures. No significant observed white blood cell count, red mean corpuscular hemoglobin, or platelets compared control group. However, there was a decrease in hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit values, volume fish There no plasmatic cholesterol, triglyceride, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase levels. histological anatomy both gills intestine revealed obvious signs damage, excessive mucous, inflammation PS-NP expression transcripts related lipid metabolism (pparα, pparβ), growth development (igf1), detoxification (bche), oxidative stress (sod, gpx1) significantly downregulated animals PS-NPs, indicating slight impairment homeostasis antioxidant response.

The use of plastics, valued for its affordability, durability, and convenience, has grown significantly with the advancement industry. Paradoxically, these very properties plastics have also led to significant environmental challenges. Plastics are highly resistant decomposition, resulting in their accumulation on land, where they eventually enter aquatic environments, due natural processes or human activities. Among microplastics, which tiny plastic particles, particularly concerning when ecosystems, including rivers seas. Their small size makes them easily ingestible by organisms, either mistake through feeding behaviors, poses serious risks. Moreover, microplastics readily adsorb other pollutants present creating pollutant complexes that can a synergistic impact, magnifying harmful effects compared acting alone. As result, extensive research focused understanding organisms. Numerous studies demonstrated organisms exposed alone combination pollutants, exhibit abnormal hatching, development, growth. Additionally, many genes, those associated antioxidant system, display expression patterns conditions. In this review, we examine impacts, discussing specific explore changes phenotype gene both independently adsorbed pollutants.
