Carbonaceous materials catalyze reductive dechlorination of chlorinated ethylenes (CEs) by iron(II) providing a new approach for the remediation CE polluted groundwater. While most CEs are reduced via β-elimination, vinyl chloride (VC), toxic and recalcitrant CE, degrades hydrogenolysis.
