Microplastic pollution is a research hotspot around the world. This study investigated characteristics of microplastic in freshwater environments 21 major cities across China. Through indoor and outdoor experimental analysis, we have identified spatial temporal distribution China’s environments. Our findings indicate that average concentration microplastics 3502.6 n/m3. The majority these are fibrous (42.5%), predominantly smaller than 3 mm (28.1%), mostly colored (64.7%). primary chemical components polyethylene (PE, 33.6%), polyvinyl chloride (PVC, 21.5%), polypropylene (PP, 16.8%), polystyrene (PS, 15.6%). abundance generally tends to increase from west east south north, with lowest found Xining, Qinghai (1737.5 n/m3), highest Jiamusi, Heilongjiang (5650.0 n/m3). directly related land use types, primarily concentrated areas intense human activity, including agricultural, transport, urban land. Seasonal changes affect microplastics, peaking summer, followed by spring autumn, mainly due variations rainfall, showing positive correlation.
