Exposure to toxigenic harmful algal blooms (HABs) can result in widely recognized acute poisoning humans. The five most commonly HAB-related illnesses are diarrhetic shellfish (DSP), paralytic (PSP), amnesic (ASP), neurotoxic (NSP), and ciguatera (CP). Despite being caused by exposure various toxins or toxin analogs, these clinical syndromes share numerous similarities. Humans exposed mainly through the consumption of fish shellfish, which serve as main biological vectors. However, risk human diseases linked HABs is on rise, corresponding a dramatic increase occurrence, frequency, intensity coastal regions worldwide. Although growing body studies have focused toxicological assessment species their aquatic organisms, organization this information lacking. Consequently, comprehensive review adverse effects HAB-associated those organisms could deepen our understanding mechanisms behind toxic effects, crucial minimizing risks public health. To end, paper summarizes common HAB fish, humans discusses possible mechanisms.
