Two new Tb(III) metal–organic frameworks based on 4,7-dimethylphenanthroline (dmphen) and flexible ligand trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate (chdc2−) were synthesized characterized. Their crystallographic formulae are [Tb2(dmphen)2(H2O)2(chdc)3]·2DMF (1; DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) [Tb2(dmphen)2(NO3)2(chdc)2]·2DMF (2). Among some differences in their synthetic conditions, the most important one is apparently using of terbium(III) nitrate instead chloride as a metal precursor synthesis 2, providing coordination to Tb3+, its subsequent notable structural 1. Phenylglyoxylic acid (PGA), the metabolite of styrene after its invasion into human body, must be monitored conveniently and accurately. Herein, two zinc-based metal–organic frameworks {[Zn(H2L)bimb]}n (Zn-1) {[Zn2(H2L)2bipd]}n (Zn-2) [H4L = 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)-3,6-dimethyl-benzene, bimb 1,1-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole), bipd 3,5-bis(1-imidazole)pyridine] had been obtained by solvothermal method could used for selective detection PGA with an extremely low limit. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that Zn-1 exhibits a 2D topological framework point symbol (66), whereas Zn-2 shows (324.436.56) topology. Fluorescence proved obvious quenching effects on PGA, body. Impressively, not only gave short response times (less than 5 s) but also exhibited relatively limit detections in water simulated urine (1.44, 0.50 1.63, 1.14 μM, respectively). Meanwhile, high stability, excellent anti-interference ability, recyclability, making them promising sensors practical PGA. Moreover, density functional theory calculation showed photoinduced electron transfer mechanism, resulting fluorescence quenching; meanwhile, photocompetitive absorption processes ligands can affect emission Zn-2.
