Introduction Steroid hormones are widely present in the environment and pose potential risks to organisms. Previous studies of steroid have predominantly focused on terrestrial environments, with few conducted marine environments. Methods In this study, we analyzed occurrence 44 seawater, sediment, organisms collected from coast Guangdong, China. Results Total concentration ranged 0.11 30.15 ng/L ND 8.58 ng/g (dw) sediments, 80.52 (ww) The highest average concentrations detected were progestins, estrogens, glucocorticoids, respectively. hormone seawater significantly higher during dry season than rainy season. Guanghai Bay, Pearl River Estuary, Daya Zhelin Bay those other bays. Discussion Negative correlations observed between salinity, indicating a continental input. Risk assessment results indicated that 17α-ethinylestradiol posed high risks. Nevertheless, consumption seafood does not significant health risk humans. To best our knowledge, is first study concurrently analyze androgens, estrogens water, diverse

The threat posed by water pollutants to aquatic ecosystems and human health cannot be overlooked, the assessment of toxicity these contaminants is paramount understanding their risks formulating effective control measures. Luminescent bacteria-based assays, as a vital tool in evaluating contaminant toxicity, encounter challenge ensuring accuracy due phenomenon "Hormesis" exhibited towards biological entities, which may skew assessments. This study elucidated specific effects on luminescent bacteria at different concentrations, used modeling characterize predict trends, explored applicable concentration ranges for pollutants. Research revealed that six typical pollutants, namely PAHs, endocrine disruptors, antibiotics, pesticides, heavy metals, phytosensory substances, could promote luminescence intensity low promotional effect increased then decreased. However, when substances reached certain threshold, changed from inhibitory, rate inhibition was directly proportional concentration. EC50 values types follows: disruptors > pesticides antibiotics metals polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons chemosensory agents. curves were further fitted using model analyze maximum point promotion threshold concentration, tolerance substances. bacterial 29% Bisphenol A 0.005 mg/L minimum chromium 0.004 mg/L, erythromycin 6.74. In addition, most current environmental concentrations had positive still range continue accumulate. These findings will enhance comprehensiveness assessments, thereby facilitating more informed decision-making realms protection pollution management.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals are a new class of pollutants that can affect hormonal metabolic processes in animals and humans. They enter the aquatic environment through various pathways gradually become enriched, thus posing serious threat to endocrine physiological systems both Nano zero-valent iron has promising applications disruptor removal due its excellent reducing properties high specific surface area. However, given dispersed focus fragmented results current studies, comprehensive review is still lacking. In this paper, it was analyzed types disruptors their emission reveal sources these compounds. Then, main technologies currently used for treatment introduced, covering physical, chemical, biological methods, with special on persulfate oxidation among advanced technologies. Also, paper summarizes activation methods technology proposes nZVI-activated as most means treatment. addition, reviews research progress different modification nZVI activating EDCs. Finally, discussion includes recycling studies nZVI/PS emphasizes urgency importance The provides further scientific basis technical support field management.
