Microplastics (MPs) and per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are ubiquitous contaminants in environments, yet their co-occurrence interactions remain insufficiently understood. In this study, we confirmed the concurrent presence of MPs PFASs distinct distribution patterns a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) through comprehensive sampling analysis effort. Significant correlations (p < 0.05) were observed between specific types PFASs, suggesting shared sources. Moreover, identified as carriers with PFAS concentration ranging 122 166 ng/g, predominantly consisting perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) perfluorobutanoic (PFBA). The laboratory verification experiment revealed that could be leached from aqueous which commercial exhibited higher leaching potential, highest combined perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), PFOA, PFBA reaching 10.4 ng/mL. PFOS demonstrated desorption efficiency exceeding 120% sorption/desorption experiments, confirming its release themselves. These results highlighted dual roles both sources PFASs. contaminant profiles across different matrices WWTP provide valuable insights form basis for further research into proactive measures to effectively mitigate environmental contamination.

Microplastics are pollutants formed from fragmented plastics and also industrially manufactured for personal care cosmetic products. They range 1 µm to 5 mm ubiquitous in the environment due their tiny size, lightweight, wide applications. Ecotoxicological studies have shown that they can induce multiple harmful effects on exposed organisms humans. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) drawn interest of researchers regulatory bodies worldwide as a point source microplastics discharge environment. In absence standardized methodology, microplastic monitoring WWTPs has been marked by distinct variations sample processing analytical procedures which limit comparison results. This review provides detailed analysis methods patterns, analytical, size characterization, quantification WWTPs. According procedural steps extraction reported reviewed studies, 12 patterns three categories approaches (single, dual, multiple) were identified. quantified using gravimetry method, mass sub-sample method (based extrapolation) with latter being most applied technique. Microplastic characterization accomplished two main methods: sieve-based technique computing-based

Excessive nanoplastics not only pose a direct threat to the environment but also have propensity adsorb and interact with other pollutants, exacerbating their impact. The coexistence of heavy metals in soils is prevalent phenomenon. However, limited research existed about joint effects two contaminants on soil organisms. In this paper, we ascertained combined toxicity polystyrene (PS-NPs) copper (Cu2+) organisms (Caenorhabditis elegans) at quantities that were present environment, further exploring whether toxicants synergistic or antagonistic. outcomes manifested single exposure low-dose PS-NPs (1 μg/L) would cause significant damage nematodes. After treatment Cu2+, locomotion ability nematode was impaired, accompanied by an elevation reactive oxygen species (ROS) level biphasic response antioxidant enzyme activity. Moreover, Cu2+ induced mRNA up-regulation vit-6, cyp-35a2, hsp-16.2, age-1, cep-1, both which stress-related genes. comparative analysis between groups (with without PS-NPs) revealed group resulted significantly greater toxic nematodes compared alone. Furthermore, addition influenced metabolic profiles Caenorhabditis elegans under stress, numerous differential metabolites associated oxidative defense mechanism. Overall, these findings expected environmental concentration elevated
