Glucosinolates (GSLs) are secondary metabolites mainly found in the plant order Brassicales. We critically evaluate reports of GSLs other orders flowering plants, propose standards for future and subject two cases to rigorous testing. Reports non-Brassicales species should live up state-of-the-art scientific concerning chemical evidence, botanical evidence biological replication. Occurrence family Putranjivaceae, Malpighiales (genera Putranjiva Drypetes) was reasonably supported, but confirmation required. Hence, taxonomic identity roxbughii seeds with previously known GSL profile confirmed using DNA-based methods. Similarly, good suggestive exist from Violaceae, Malpighiales, need confirmation. No report any a meet proposed standards, exists Phytolaccaceae, Caryophyllales lesser extent Celastraceae, Celastrales. A recent tropical suggested be Sapindales subjected testing terms analysis, replication identification including DNA sequencing. original structure reproducibility revised Brassicales (family Capparidaceae). Hence this paper also myrosinase activity, isothiocyanate-type products roots stems, roots, leaves fruits Capparis sepiaria L., dominated by Leu-derived 2-methylpropyl vegetative parts, Val-derived 1-methylethyl Ile-derived 1-methylpropyl fruits, additionally Trp-derived indol-3-ylmethyl 4-hydroxyindol-3-ylmethyl immature fruits. Several were searched conclusively not above limit detection.
