Published: Jan. 1, 2025

Abstract Microplastic (MP) pollution is widespread and has become a significant global environmental concern. This study represents the first attempt to investigate abundance of MPs in open dumping scrapyard sites Türkiye. Microplastics were identified soils surrounding these areas, spanning eight provinces. The samples analysed for MP distribution characteristics, including abundance, shape, size, colour type. extracted using density separation with saturated K 2 CO 3 , followed by treatment 30% H O . Chemical identification was conducted ATR‐FTIR μ‐FTIR. Various types detected soil samples, averages 311.6 ± 113.9 particles kg −1 areas 463.3 83.9 areas. In predominantly blue (35.3%), fragment‐shaped (36.6%), smaller than 500 μm (44.7%) primarily polyethylene (81.5%). Similarly, (33.1%), (63.4%), (55.3%) mostly (70.1%). Principal Component Analysis (PCA) indicated that properties, such as pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter, aggregate stability, bulk density, average weight diameter, sand, clay silt, significantly influenced size soil. highlights potential concerns regarding contamination three industrially developed regions Türkiye because uncontrolled plastic waste

Abstract Microplastic (MPs) pollution has engulfed global aquatic systems, and the concerns about MPs translocation bioaccumulation in fish, crabs, other marine organisms are now an unpleasant truth. In past few years, freshwater particularly rivers, subsequently organisms, especially caught attention of researchers. Rivers provide livelihood to approximately 40% population through food potable water. Hence, assessment emerging contaminants like waterways associated fauna is crucial. This study assessed crab S. serrata across largest riverine system south India, Kaveri River. The were characterized by optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy‐energy dispersive X‐ray (FESEM–EDX) analysis for their number, shape, size, color. Polymer composition was analyzed using attenuated total reflectance Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR) Raman spectroscopy. Polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyamide (PA), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) dominant plastic polymers intestine. Additionally, FE‐SEM revealed that have differential surface morphology with rough surfaces, porous structures, fissures, severe damage. Most comprised Na, Si, Mg, Cl, K, Ca, according EDX analyses. findings might insight into status at Kavery river could help formulating regulations reduction contamination rivers eventually protect environment human health. Practitioner Points first on identity properties crabs from River Mettur Dam. A simple cost‐effective approach extracting microplastics samples Dam, River, Salem District, Tamil Nadu, India. In 2021, the packaging sector emerged as largest source of plastic waste in Europe, accounting for about 40% total demand plastics. On average, an EU citizen produced 35.9 kg from packaging, with a 27% increase over last 10 years. Despite advances material efficiency and sustainability efforts, average recycling rate was around 2022, significantly lower than that paper cardboard (83.2%) metals (76.9%). ABSTRACT Background The incidence of hypothyroidism in childhood is increasing. This study aimed to investigate the potential role exposure bisphenol A, an environmental endocrine disruptor, and its substitutes development hypothyroidism. To this end, thyroid hormone levels urinary concentrations were compared newly diagnosed hypothyroid children a healthy control group. Methods In case‐control study, 51 aged 6−14 years matched with controls. association between was investigated by measuring both case groups. Results There no significant difference age, sex or BMI percentile groups homogeneously distributed. When examined, BPA, BPS, BPF BPB not detected terms BPS levels. group showed mean total concentration 16.5 ng/mL median 5.8 ng/mL. Diagnosing can be considered examining level. ROC analysis, if level over 1.3 positive for hypothyroidism, sensitivity value determined as 83.7% specificity 75%. Conclusion demonstrated that at least 50% had exceeding highest recorded group, suggesting BP could used biomarker

Abstract Humans have been consuming milk obtained from domesticated animals since ancient times. Milk is a very complete food with important nutrients that can support life. However, the patterns of consumption shifting. On one hand, due to increase in number people intolerances (to lactose, for example), and on other some trend avoid foods animal origin owing specific conviction (like welfare, example). In this context, study focused two different European Countries evaluation possible differences. The object was sources, namely, cows, no derived fermented dairy products were included. For development study, questionnaire survey applied sample 542 participants both countries using Internet. results showed high percentage consume regularly, usual amount varies between 125 250 mL per day. those who do not milk, most relevant reason pointed out because they feel need it. While France, also like Portugal, lactose intolerance. consumed semi-skimmed preferences are towards plain or it chocolate. Significant differences found white brands, which preferred while consumers prefer commercial as well package, tetra packs Portuguese, French plastic bottles. conclusion, although similar trends among countries, identified be used better plan public policies countries.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging pollutants in aquatic systems, but their presence groundwater, particularly thermal waters, is understudied. This study investigates the prevalence and characteristics of MPs waters Kütahya, Turkey, marking first such exploration country globally groundwater systems. Twenty-one samples (3 L each) were collected across nine regions filtered using GF/C filters (0.45-µm pore size). Microscopic examination μ-Raman spectroscopy revealed an average MP concentration 0.85 ± 0.71 MPs/L (850 MPs/m3), with highest at ST-8 (4.88 2.98 MPs/L). Fibers (50%), fragments (39.8%), films (10.2%) identified, polyethylene (22.2%) being most common polymer type. Variability abundance stations suggests multiple contamination sources, including agricultural runoff, anthropogenic activities, material used water transport infrastructure. The findings indicate low-level which could influence both ecological health human activities relying on these as tourism greenhouse irrigation. pioneering highlights necessity for integrated waste management policies to mitigate pollution underscores role understanding dynamics
