This study explores the correlation of contaminants emerging concern (CECs) in wastewater effluents using liquid chromatography (LC), supercritical fluid (SFC), and comprehensive two-dimensional gas (GC × GC) with derivatization, all coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). Over 300 compounds, including frequently overlooked highly polar nonpharmaceutical CECs, were identified. Monitoring programs mainly focus on reducing variability assessing pollution treatment plant (WWTP) under dry weather conditions, often neglecting wet-weather discharges. In this study, analysis revealed complex impact rainfall effluent composition, identifying clusters CECs introduced through rain runoff discharges from retention basins. Rain events affected removal efficiency easily degradable variations between WWTPs. Persistent compounds such as PFAS demonstrated strong intragroup correlations, reflecting their common sources environmental stability. These findings provide valuable insights into diverse profiles demonstrate potential correlation-based approaches optimize strategies specific challenges individual

Abstract Background The antidepressant venlafaxine and its metabolite o-desmethylvenlafaxine are frequently found in water bodies around the world reaching several micrograms per liter. As a remedy, electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) such as anodic with boron doped diamond (BDD) electrode have proven to be suitable means prevent entrance aquatic environment. For potential application, optimization of EAOPs can readily achieved by variation conditions using flow cell compared batch-mode cell. Monitoring characterization reactants provide inside into mechanism. Results High performance liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry led observation five transformation products four o-desmethylvenlafaxine. Mass voltammograms were recorded from which impact on degradation quantity nature derived. pathways identified well. Detailed analysis revealed that hydroxyl radicals played major role prevalence radical induced was further corroborated scavenger tert-butanol, causing decrease elimination efficiency. Both drugs best eliminated at pH 3 voltage 1.5 V, least ecotoxicological concern indicated QSAR analysis. Conclusion study shall contribute advancement for stages wastewater purification treatment. An in silico ecotoxicity assessment showed is beneficial an point view. Especially formed via indirect radical-induced mechanism lower than initial compound.
