The risk of human exposure to micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) has received increasing attention in recent years. Consumption drinking water is a significant route MNPs. While previous studies focus on MNPs treated wastewater or final effluent, research addressing networks (DWNs) as potential secondary sources remains sparse. However, how DWN, critical component transporting from treatment plants consumers, contributes contamination underexplored existing studies. We extracted keywords reviewed literature using bibliometric methods conducted correlation analyses, revealing four clusters: baseline detection, health assessments, nanoplastic, treatment. abundance DWN ranged 0.01 1.4 items/L. varied between 679.5 4.5 × 107 items/kg when calculated based sample mass (in scales debris). Based the shape polymer composition MNPs, strongly suspected contribute tap water. also main mechanisms for formation release pipelines, including mechanical forces, hammer effects, chemical aging. Our review highlighted current gaps MNP DWN. It will understanding contribution provide framework future monitoring efforts.
