Among the various compounds regarded as emerging contaminants (ECs), pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are of particular concern. Their continuous release into environment has a negative global impact on human life. This review summarizes sources, occurrence, persistence, consequences exposure, toxicity PPCPs, evaluates analytical methods used in identification quantification PPCPs variety solid liquid environmental matrices. The use of some organic fertilizers may raise concerns about the transfer hazardous substances to soil and plants. This study examined impact amendment with compost vermicompost derived from sewage sludge straw pellets in different ratios on accumulation pharmaceuticals personal care products (PPCPs) by hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). concentrations fifty PPCPs were measured compost-treated soil, roots above-ground biomass cannabis grown soil. highest bioaccumulation was recorded plants previously unfertilized soils low matter, while lowest amended or made only, without sludge. effect sludge-derived application absorption statistically determined measurements samples, shoots carbamazepine, cetirizine, lamotrigine, telmisartan, paraxanthine, tramadol, triclosan, venlafaxine. exhibited lower PPCP content than roots, suggesting a potential plant defense mechanism for limiting contaminant translocation. Only tramadol carbamazepine showed significantly increased biomass.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the compostability of treatment sludge and determine effects adding different animal manures (cattle, pig, horse, chicken) agricultural waste (sunflower stalks) on composting process. Five compost reactors (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5) were operated. Sunflower stalks added all as a bulking agent at rate 20%. Treatment (80%) M1 reactor, where manure was not added, while 40% other reactors. In cattle (M2), pig (M3), horse (M4), chicken (M5) used, respectively. The temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter (OM), carbon nitrogen ratio (C/N), total Kjeldahl nitrogen, phosphorus monitored during 21-day highest OM loss (64.8%) occurred in M2 maximum temperature (62.7 °C) achieved. high temperatures reached reactor increased microbial activity, resulting rapid decomposition elimination pathogens. With reduction C/N (40%), balance achieved, thus obtaining more stable higher quality for plants this reactor. only composted, lower microbiological activity compared mixtures due lack substrate. It can be said that together with will provide end products.
