Selecting the most cost-effective retrofit interventions to achieve a significant reduction of energy use and CO2 emissions in building sectors is challenging, because large number possible retrofitting options should be analyzed. To remedy this simplify decision-making process, optimization may adopted. This study developed an iterative process by coupling dynamic simulation software, IDA-ICE, generic engine, GenOpt, through Graphical Script module. was applied office located Nordic climate. Two scenarios were considered. In first scenario, optimal designs achieved minimizing life cycle cost measures over span 60 years, while for space heating cooling constraints satisfy Norwegian passive house standard level. second delivered minimized limited predefined value. different systems used, radiator all-air systems. The parameters included envelope elements set points (in case system). results showed that specific could reduced up 11%, met according standards. decreased 55% scenario.

The building sector is responsible for 39% of process-related greenhouse gas emissions globally, making net- or nearly-zero energy buildings pivotal reaching climate neutrality. This article reviews recent advances in key options and strategies converting the to be neutral. evidence from literature shows it possible achieve outcomes across world most types climates with systems, technologies, skills that already exist, at costs are range conventional buildings. Maximizing efficiency all uses found as central net-zero targets. Jurisdictions over world, including Brussels, New York, Vancouver, Tyrol, have innovated visionary policies catalyze themarket success such buildings, more than 7 million square meters erected China alone past few years. Since embodied carbon materials can consume up a half remaining 1.5°C budget, this minimize store materials.

The increase in global surface temperatures will surpass the 2 °C target set by Paris Agreement unless carbon emissions are lowered to zero 2050. To date, building sector is responsible for 38% of all emissions, thus one main targets represented development strategies that can facilitate transition toward carbon-neutral buildings. today nearly energy buildings (nZEBs), (ZEBs)/net (NZEBs) and net (NZCBs). Particularly, NZCBs completely operational embodied during their life cycles, fulfilling leadership role decarbonization construction sector. Moreover, adopting European Standard EN 15978:2011, be precisely classified enhance aimed at reducing them. Commercial viability remains a fundamental economic driver, but higher initial capital costs hinder NZCBs. In addition, legislative, socio-cultural, technological, professional geographical barriers hold back its diffusion. met four-steps program: reduction, renewable supply offset storage. The application of heuristic algorithms with life cycle assessment (LCA) is a promising approach to efficiently optimize the building and minimize environmental impact even in very large design space. In this paper, modular parametric optimization framework combining advanced modelling, LCA, energy calculation single- multi-objective was developed applied multi-apartment house Hungary. variables comprise geometry, envelope, fixtures, as well heating source. objective expressed terms six most common LCA indicators. results show that relatively compact shape, windows south equipped shading high levels insulation are optimal from an perspective. It also proven focusing only on embodied or operational leads suboptimal solution, choice source for operation has significant influence achievable optimum. Through optimization, savings 60–80% were achieved compared initial options showing potential such methods architectural design.
