Since China's reform and opening up, the urban economy has substantially developed, nation's urbanization process advanced to gradually enter a "new normal" phase. In this process, population industries continue inundate its cities, environmental pollution become critical problem. This study uses panel data spanning 1998 2015 from 29 Chinese provinces comprehensive framework of well-designed generalized method moments (GMM) models accurately examine relationships between per capita sulfur dioxide (PSO2), industrial soot (PSOOT), waste gas (PIWG). A newly developed dynamic threshold model that incorporates GMM characteristics is utilized explore how affects under different structures. finds evidence relationship among development, structure, pollution. Urbanization contributed increased nonlinear exists in China. Further, increasingly promotes with an increase proportion secondary industries; however, such promotion decreases tertiary industries.

Abstract China is gradually changing its pursuit of rapid economic growth into a development quality. In this context, whether “cyberpower” and “digital China” strategies are truly conducive to China's sustainable still needs be further tested. This paper constructs provincial information communication technology (ICT) comprehensive level index from the four dimensions penetration, coverage, resources, business then innovatively undertakes theoretical framework integrating ICT, environmental regulations, green total factor energy efficiency (GTFEE) for analysis. Using panel data 30 administrative regions 2006 2017, study explores direct impact, moderating effect, nonlinear relationship, regional differences ICT on GTFEE. It indicated that plays positive role in promoting GTFEE moderated by regulations. The regression results dynamic threshold model indicate diverse regulation intensities lead different influences Moreover, impact heterogeneous among regions. Specifically, western region may gain more benefits virtue late‐mover advantage.
