Light pollution raises various problems for urban environments. This study examined whether or not the tree removal regulation in The Woodlands, Texas, reduced light pollution. Nighttime intensities Woodlands and nearby communities were derived from Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Day Night Band (DNB) monthly nighttime images. A multi-level model (MLM) was used to examine effects of built environmental variables on communities. intensity affected by high-intensity developed land, vegetation density, areas. Then, a control community with similar conditions selected, paired t-test between conducted. test illustrates that had lower than community. Based these results, it is concluded Woodlands' effective mitigating

Abstract The Night Skies Team of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) has developed a new camera system equipped with fisheye lens to measure night sky brightness. This NPS Fisheye Sky Imager comprises back-illuminated Sony IMX455 CMOS sensor housed in ZWO ASI6200MM camera, Johnson V filter, and Sigma 8 mm F3.5 lens. All components are commercially available. allows us capture entire single frame. wide-angle view also introduces calibration challenges. To address this, we have customized tools devised innovative methods for calibrating system, including flat-field correction, pixel scale determination, field characterization. Additionally, use standard stars precise positional photometric calibration. Furthermore, create an open-source Python pipeline process these images leverage Git GitHub source code version control distribution. resulting provide positionally brightness-calibrated sky, uncertainty 0.12 mag. When comparing our measurements taken other calibrated systems, reliably achieve consistent results under both dark bright skies. Our not only enables rapid assessment quality but supports feasibility establishing permanent monitoring locations. Recognizing that natural is critical element natural, cultural, educational, visitor experiences, this enhances ability assess resource conditions fulfill mission conserving resources unimpaired enjoyment future generations.

The study of light pollution is a relatively new and specific field measurement. current literature dominated by articles that describe the use ground satellite data as source information on pollution. However, there need to phenomenon microscale, i.e., locally within small locations such housing estates, parks, buildings, or even inside buildings. Therefore, an important measure at lower level, low level skyline. In this paper, authors present drone design for A completely original unmanned platform measurement presented, which adapted mount custom sensors (not originally designed be mounted aerial vehicles) allowing registration in nadir zenith directions. application traditional photometric configuration, spectrometer sky quality meter (SQM), presented. multispectral camera nighttime measurements, calibrated visible-light camera, used. results vehicle (UAV) are generated products allow visualisation multimodal together with presence geographic coordinate system. This paper also presents from experiments during spectrum measured installed sensors. As show, measurements night, especially cameras, assessment emitted street lamps, while depends flight height only up 10 m above level.
