This study analyzes temperature trends and thermal comfort during the key hours (i.e., from noon to 3:00 p.m.) of human tower (castells) performances in four significant festivities involving this outdoor exhibition (diada castellera) Catalonia. Human towers were recognized by UNESCO 2010 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. The selected exhibitions Sant Joan Valls on 24 June; Festa Major de La Bisbal del Penedès 15 August; Magí Tarragona 19 Fèlix Vilafranca 30 August. Temperature relative humidity data downloaded Copernicus Climate Change Service’s ERA5-Land ERA5 pressure level datasets, respectively, with reanalysis 1951 2023. results revealed a clear upward trend temperatures over last several decades these places for respective dates, +0.3 °C per decade +0.42 Valls. Most positive anomalies concentrated 25 years. calculation Heat Index higher occurrence years possible fatigue due prolonged exposure and/or physical activity three inland locations Valls, Penedès, Penedès) greater frequency heat stroke, cramps, exhaustion Tarragona, which is near Mediterranean Sea. warming increased discomfort pose potential health risks participants suggests need adaptive measures. These findings emphasize importance incorporating climate considerations into planning.
