ABSTRACT This study explores the relationship between executive ownership, minority shareholder protection, and environmental innovation in China. We conducted using a comprehensive sample of A‐share companies listed on Chinese Exchange Market from 2013 to 2022. The final consists 29,366 observations. results show that ownership significantly boosts innovation, especially low‐polluting industries. However, its impact is minimal high‐polluting sectors, highlighting necessity external regulatory frameworks. Minority protection positively moderates this relationship, indicating critical role fostering environmentally beneficial strategies. Executive salary also encourages but lesser extent than suggesting potential governance challenges with just short‐term financial incentives. research underscores importance policies aligning incentives long‐term goals strengthening rights for effective corporate sustainability efforts. Hence, policymakers should focus creating encourage sustainable particularly industries where internal alone may not suffice.
