High population growth, industrialization, precipitous urban settlement, and poor government policies in some circles have increased resource consumption various environmental activities that promote water pollution. Diverse materials such as nanomaterials, quantum dots, carbonaceous materials, quaternary-metallic oxides been very successful removing benign pollutants from contaminated bodies. Lately, transition metal (TMOs) chalcogenides (TMCs), their composites attracted favorable research interest applications due to flexible elemental composition, manipulatable bandgaps, earth abundance, optoelectrical properties, visible light activity, catalytic stability. This review explores the of binary, ternary, quaternary, heterostructure TMOs TMCs for a broad range biological, organic, inorganic wastewater treatment. The popular treatment strategies explored include photocatalysis, adsorption, antimicrobial, persulfate/peroxymonosulfate activation, Fenton-like process. mechanisms catalysis these processes were briefly highlighted prospects use discussed.
