ABSTRACT Proton exchange membranes (PEMs) with high proton conductivity, good methanol barrier ability, and reliable mechanical stability are crucial for their practical application in direct fuel cells (DMFCs). Preparation of nanofiber‐based composite PEMs is a facile effective way to balance the trade‐off between conductivity sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK). Herein, surface amino functionalized silica coated polyvinylidene fluoride (N‐SiO 2 @PVDF) electrospun nanofibers were prepared used as support SPEEK. The obtained SPEEK‐filled N‐SiO @PVDF membrane showed strength (27.3 MPa) toughness aid reinforcement effect together ionic crosslinking grafted NH filling polymer Moreover, demonstrated considerable conductivities especially at 80°C (46.1 mS cm −1 ), which was very close that SPEEK (53.5 ). Thanks its low crossover single DMFC assembled SPEEK‐N‐SiO output higher open circuit voltage 0.78 V power density 70.5 mW −2 , far beyond those (0.66 42.5
