There is a growing amount of evidence suggesting high rates co-occurring internet addiction (IA) symptoms and psychological distress in youth. However, the extent to which IA develop over time, how they interact with dynamically, predict one another remain unclear. Additionally, what specific types distress, including depression, anxiety, stress, are more closely associated remains inconclusive. This longitudinal study aimed explore development changes time directional relationship between various symptoms. followed sample 2497 Chinese college students (mean age 19.14, SD 0.72 years) across 3 waves data collection span 2 years. Their were assessed at baseline (T1), 12-month follow-up (T2), 24-month (T3). We used network analysis examine structure each wave cross-lagged panel (CLPN) investigate associations depressive, stress The cross-sectional networks points showed similarity terms structure, existence edges, centrality indices. Nodes A2 (excessive use), A1 (salience), A5 (lack control) emerged as nodes highest expected influence (EI) symptom (A2: EI=1.13 T1, 1.15 T2, 1.17 T3; A1: EI=1.10 1.13 A5: EI=0.86 0.88 0.92 T3). CLPN revealed that predicts but not other way around. Depressive played key role predicting IA-related problems (T1 edge weight=0.11; T2 T3, weight=0.28; T1 weight=0.22) served bridge connecting T2: bridge-expected [BEI]=0.15; T3: BEI=0.14; BEI=0.19). Findings relatively stable among suggested especially depressive symptoms, may play central activating time. These results provide for understanding characteristics IA. also underscores importance their co-occurrence IA, indicating identified this can be prioritized targets preventing treating Through identification early intervention we avoid progression issues, leading effective treatment outcomes.
