Nitrogen (N) deposition and soil acidification are environmental challenges affecting ecosystem functioning, health, biodiversity, but their effects on functional genes poorly understood. Here, we utilized metabarcoding metagenomics to investigate the responses of N along a natural pH gradient. Soil content was uncorrelated with pH, enabling us separately. acidity strongly negatively affected relative abundances most cluster orthologous gene categories metabolism supercategory. Similarly, diversity related carbon not phosphorus cycling. Multivariate analyses showed that important factor microbial composition, while were less important.
