ABSTRACT Microbial necromass is microbial assimilation metabolites that are important for soil organic carbon (SOC) accumulation. Stoichiometric ratios reflect the relative abundances of various elements in forest ecosystems, and proportions (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) an organism affect its metabolic capacity, biomass, final yield. However, mechanism by which stoichiometry regulates unclear. The effect on was investigated using a 7‐year field manipulation experiment subtropical Chinese fir ( Cunninghamia lanceolata ) plantation with aboveground litter addition removal. We measured C contributions to SOC (MNC/SOC) stoichiometric total available nutrients, enzyme activities. MNC/SOC at 0–10 cm layer significantly increased rather than nutrients (31%) enzymatic activities (15%) explained variations MNC/SOC. fungal positively correlated C/N biomass activities, whereas bacterial only C/P N/P indicated relationship between not exactly same. did have significant correlations below 20 layers, decoupled increasing depth. Our results provide holistic understanding elucidate mechanisms MNC accumulation contribution along profile forest, providing new insights research directions enhancing sequestration improving quality.
