Black morel is a widely prized ascomycetous mushroom with culinary value. It was once uncultivable but can now be cultivated routinely in ordinary farmland soils. Large-scale farming sometimes encounters nonfructification for unknown reasons. In spring 2020, many farms the area of Chengdu-Plain, China, exhibited no fructification at all, causing disastrous economic loss to farmers. To determine potential ecological factors associated different performance production these farms, 21 affected sites versus 11 normal were analyzed compare soil microbiota and physiochemical characteristics during fructification. The results indicated that unlikely major reason difference between successful nonfructification. soils had significantly higher diversity both fungal bacterial communities than those Morel yield positively correlated α-diversity communities. successfully fructified contributed by community evenness rather taxonomic richness. contrast, most dominated high proportion certain genus, typically Acremonium or Mortierella, Our findings demonstrate importance microbial ecology large-scale agroindustry soil-cultivated mushrooms. IMPORTANCE Saprotrophic mushrooms are subject complex influences from Research on growing edible has revealed connections fungi few species growth-promoting bacteria colonizing mycosphere. composition whole may also have an influence growth soil-saprotrophic (Morchella spp.) economically culturally important throughout world. This study used morels as example agroecosystem cultivation. demonstrated typical pattern how agroecosystems, especially level among taxa, could affect high-value cash crops income
