The possibility of inducing structural crosslinking and densification plasma-deposited SiOx networks by controlling low-energy reaction mechanisms was investigated. For this, films were deposited for 300 s from HMDSO (2%), O2 (86%) Ar (12%) mixtures at a working pressure 15.7 Pa. Plasma-initiated polymerization (PIP) is generally attributed to a radical process due its inhibiting property. However, unique behaviors like long-lived and solvent effect do not comply well with the traditional mechanism. Herein, PIP of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was conducted in high-voltage DC electric field investigate charged nature radicals. The Z-pinch device is a critical component in inertial confinement fusion, where stainless steel electrodes must withstand high current densities of up to MA/cm2. Gases and difficult-to-remove impurities adhering the electrode surfaces can ionize, significantly impacting device’s electrical conductivity efficiency.
