Modeling Wet Air Oxidation of Sodium Acetate in a Bubble Column DOI Open Access

Scale-up bubble columns for wet air oxidation (WAO) represent a novel solution to the growing problem of sodium acetate-containing waste discharge. This study used an axial dispersion model simulate reactor at high temperature 320 °C. By minimizing structure size and gas fed into system, estimated optimal dimensions were obtained. At optimized diameter, total height, initial oxygen partial pressure, superficial velocity 1 m, 7 40 bar, 0.07 m/s, respectively, degradation efficiency over 90% was obtained, which residual concentration acetate degraded from 700 mol/m3 70 mol/m3. The distributions dissolved oxygen, acetate, concentrations in nearly uniform. column exhibited intermediate state between well-mixed flow plug both liquid gas.
