The circular economy can enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to address sustainability challenges facilitate the transition from linear economy. Understanding ecosystem strategies their implications for business model implementation is vital a successful transition. Therefore, we seek answer following research question: How do SMEs’ influence achieve circularity goals? Drawing on multiple case study of 31 SMEs food processing industry, our provides insights into four strategies: visioner, synergizer, explorer, amplifier. These are contingent ability adopt an appropriate role in (leader or complementor) state evolution (emerging established). In addition, elucidate activities dealing with design, development, commercialization that relate identified.

The purpose of this article is to investigate the development sustainable business models (SBMs) renewable energy companies. To assess degree alignment with European Union Taxonomy for activities (Regulation 2020/852), Green Deal, and Sustainable Development Goals five companies—Ørsted, Engie, Vattenfall, Iberdrola, Enel—we have used their sustainability reports from 2023. We analyzed how each company contributes EU climate targets strategy achieve a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 net zero 2050. results showed challenges faced switching traditional fossil fuel models. Due regulatory constraints different organizational structures, has adopted specific SBM respect power generation green transition. advantages disadvantages these SBMs were identified described comparatively help regulators, policymakers, industry associations improve reporting sector.

Frontiers in Manufacturing Technology, Journal Year: 2024, Volume and Issue: 4

Published: Aug. 20, 2024

Advanced manufacturing research for sustainable battery life cycles is of utmost importance to reach net zero carbon emissions ( European Commission, 2023a ) as well several the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), example: 30% reduction CO 2 emission, 10 million job opportunities and access electricity 600 people World Economic Forum, 2019 ). This editorial paper highlights international motivations pursuing more practices discusses key topics in manufacturing. Batteries will be central our future generation storage become components on-demand energy supply. Four underlying themes are identified address industrial needs this field: 1. Digitalizing automating production capabilities: data-driven solutions quality, smart maintenance, automation, human factors, 2. Human-centric production: extended reality operator support skills development, 3. Circular cycles: circular systems supported by service-based other novel business models, 4. Future value chains: increased resilience transparency with digital product passports, next-generation chemistries. Challenges along these highlighted transforming chains through circularity production, a particular emphasis on lithium-ion batteries (LIB). The concludes directions further advance chain utilizing full potential digitalization realising cleaner, energy-efficient society.
