Abstract Together with rice, weeds strive for nutrients and space in farmland, resulting reduced rice yield quality. Planting herbicide‐resistant varieties is one of the effective ways to control weeds. In recent years, a series breakthroughs have been made generate germplasm, especially emergence biotechnological tools such as gene editing, which provides an inherent advantage knock‐out or knock‐in desired genes. order develop germplasm resources, manipulation has conducted enhance herbicide tolerance through utilization techniques physical chemical mutagenesis, well genome editing. Based on current research persisting problems paddy fields, generation still needs explore genetic mechanisms, stacking multiple resistant genes single genotype, transgene‐free editing using CRISPR system. Current rapidly developing technologies can be used mutate target genes, enabling targeted maintain their biological functions, reducing binding ability encoded proteins corresponding herbicides, ultimately crops. this review article, we summarized conventional modern approaches cultivars strategy weed discussed technology directions creating future.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.), a staple food for billions worldwide, is challenged by salt stress. Owing to the limited understanding of physiological and genetic basis rice tolerance, few genes have been identified as valuable in breeding, causing major bottleneck development high-yield, salt-tolerant varieties.
