Integrating advanced air mobility (AAM) into the logistics of high-value electronic commodities can enhance efficiency and promote sustainability. The objective this study is to optimize network for electronics by integrating AAM solutions, specifically using heavy-lift cargo drones middle-mile transport mostly rural small urban U.S. state North Dakota as a case study. analysis utilized geographic information system (GIS) spatial optimization models strategically assign underutilized airports multimodal freight hubs facilitate shift from long-haul trucks transport. Key findings demonstrate that electronics, because their high value-to-weight ratio, are ideally suited Comparative shows reduce average cost per ton up 60% compared traditional trucking. Optimization results indicate number placed logistical travel distances more than 13% last-mile deliveries. Cost analyses viability transport, especially on lower-volume routes, highlighting flexibility. emphasizes importance utilizing existing infrastructure network. By replacing truck traffic with drones, mitigate road congestion, emissions, extend lifespan. These insights have critical implications supply chain managers, shippers, planners, policymakers, providing decision support roadmap strategies.

The efficient and timely delivery of pharmaceuticals is critical, particularly in regions with dispersed populations challenging logistics. Inclement weather often disrupts ground transport, complicating the consistent supply essential medications. Advanced air mobility (AAM), through use drones, presents a promising solution to these logistical challenges by enabling smaller, more frequent deliveries low density populated places bypassing traditional transport constraints. This study evaluates potential benefits AAM for pharmaceutical North Dakota (ND). authors developed comprehensive GIS optimization framework identify optimal locations centers routes drone truck transport. introduces person-years-saved (PYS) metric rank deployments foster healthcare improvements underserved communities. Moreover, found that trips were significantly cost-effective than trips, trucks being 2.3 times expensive having 2.8 higher underutilization rate. concludes recommendations regulatory support future research validate expand application logistics, contributing improved operational efficiency overlooked rural populations. These insights provide foundation practical implementation technologies, emphasizing their revolutionize logistics environments.
