External disturbances exciting a mechanical resonator can be exploited to gain information on the environment. Many of these interactions manifest as momentum kicks, such recoil residual gas, radioactive decay, or even hypothetical with dark matter. These are often rare enough that they resolved singular events rather than cumulated force noise. While high-Q resonators low masses particularly sensitive will strongly excite resonator, leading nonlinear effects deteriorate sensing performance. Hence, this paper utilizes optimal estimation methods extract individual kicks from measured stochastic trajectories kept in linear regime through feedback control. The developed scheme is illustrated and tested experimentally using prestressed silicon nitride trampoline resonator. Apart enhancing wide range scenarios mentioned above, our results indicate feasibility novel single-molecule mass spectrometry approaches. Published by American Physical Society 2025
