This study assessed the distribution of microplastics (MPs) in gills, intestines, and muscles common carp (Cyprinus carpio), one main fish species consumed by humans living lower regions Han River South Korea. In total, 891 MP particles were detected 15 carps, with an average 59.4 ± 45.5 particles/specimen, indicating severe contamination. The predominant form was fragment (86%), size range 0.02–0.10 mm. Thirty muscle samples (n = 10), primarily sizes < 0.1 mm (89%). most types polymers this polyethylene (≥42%), polystyrene (≥20%), polypropylene (≥19%), which at same level as polymer ratio domestic plastic production/use. No correlation observed between length number MPs different body tissues, abundance environment rather than residue accumulation. These findings contribute to evaluation potential impact edible on human health emphasize need develop strategies reduce contamination originating from various land sources.
