Latent Heat Thermal Energy Storage (LHTES) systems using Phase Change Materials (PCMs) are becoming increasingly important due to their superior energy storage capacity. This study focuses on the development of a prototype vertical heat exchanger for LHTES, featuring both two-pass and four-pass configurations. Paraffin wax savE® OM-42 (manufactured by PLUSSTM) is used as PCM, with water serving transfer fluid (HTF). To evaluate system's performance, numerical experimental methods were employed investigate influence design PCM charging behavior. Simulations conducted ANSYS Fluent, results validated data from custom-fabricated setup. The involved creating 3D transient models assess effects orientation, number passes, positioning HTF tubes. Variations in inlet temperature also examined understand impact PCM's melting Key parameters analyzed included time during cycle, average liquid fraction, temperature, outlet temperatures. Visual observations solidification patterns over made. Results showed that tube positioning, orientation significantly influenced duration rate PCM. findings underscore critical role optimizing LHTES performance.
