Cities are facing significant challenges related to climate change, particularly due the increasing impact of Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon. The present study investigated UHI phenomenon at microscale in Annaba, Algeria. research involved a multi-step approach, starting with on-site measurements urban microclimate parameters, performed downtown Annaba on 6 July 2023. intensity was quantified by comparing city-measured temperatures rural surroundings. Thermal imaging is then used empirically identify contributing factors initiation microscale. employed ENVI-met model analyse mitigation strategies, manipulating parameters for six scenarios including current design area. Outputs were assess these strategies air temperature, mean radiant relative humidity, and wind speed. findings revealed an intense effect city peak difference 6.9 °C, practical implications buildings, ground roads, vehicles, conditioners, specific facade materials. Introducing vegetation, trees green roofs, proved highly effectiveness mitigating Annaba. demonstrated most substantial impact, reducing 1.9 °C 1 p.m., while roof temperature reductions ranged from 0.1 2 °C.

In the current climate change scenario, Mediterranean cities face heatwaves and reduced availability of freshwater alternated with intense precipitation events in short periods. The demand for water, especially urban tourism purposes, is rising, particularly coastal cities. importance integrating nature into cities, trees, has been studied its benefits adapting to improving quality life. However, water scarcity remains a limiting factor ensuring needs trees and, consequently, ecosystem services they provide. this study, we quantified (CO 2 sequestration storage, O production, air pollutants removal, hydrological effects as transpiration, intercepted avoided runoff) provided by vegetation Faro (Algarve, Portugal), detailed analysis three green spaces. We analyzed given spaces community preferences. Rainwater harvesting was an alternative source irrigation advantages cycle. found that across city sequesters 1.09 × 10 3 t. yr −1 CO , stores 4.01 t C, contributes pollutant removal = 114; 3.56 ; NO 313; SO 224; PM 872; 2.5 70) kg. prevents 861 m . surface runoff. general, people inquired use visit value city’s spaces, enjoy activities nature, have definite preferences regarding are available suggest actions improve these It confirmed order maintain their provides community, rainwater utmost relevance representing reduction drinking 4.20

The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect is a phenomenon where urban areas experience higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas. In these issues, enhanced air or surface temperature one of the major issues that led to UHI phenomenon. this article, we come up with study on diurnal caused in Jaipur city, India, and Jaipur. In-situ monitoring has been carried out at seven dispersed locations properly understand evaluate effects (SUHI) atmospheric (AUHI), as well assess thermal profile diverse land surfaces With use satellite data, intensity AUHI SUHI determined between 10.30 a.m. p.m. observations point positive (AUHII) exists many locations, irrespective time periods. During day period, negative (SUHII) was noticed whereas during night SUHII noticed. According our observations, have direct correlation but inverse day. That is, active both night. Various play significant role contrasting effect. This evaluates potential remotely sensed data provides recommendations for planners policymakers mitigate city

As global warming and heat waves are becoming more frequent severe, cities, with their different morphological districts, must be at the forefront of environmental challenges. Notably, many Mediterranean towns maintain original medieval urban fabric regular one. The research focuses on development a methodology application high-resolution 3D modelling software ENVI-met V5.1 to analyze microclimatic effects mitigation adaptation strategies derived from study fabric. aim is address contemporary challenges such as island (UHI) in modern cities. By studying outdoor energy behavior southern Italian city (Bari), proposes scenarios for settlements face climate change. This approach provides recommendations creating climate-resilient environments both historic city. use trees large crowns tall shrubs inclusion fountain jets achieve sky view factor air temperatures similar those historical Increasing albedo values green roofs prove further improving climatic conditions.

To what extent can outdoor heat adaptation measures in urban districts help to reduce high indoor temperatures buildings and thus enhance thermal conditions? answer this question microscale meteorological simulation (MMS) building performance (BPS) are combined a model chain approach. Two existing residential German with different designs modelled the MMS tool ENVI-met. For both districts, representative (one from Wilhelminian period one large panel construction type) is using BPS IDA-ICE. Different scenarios of applied analyse how changes design (e.g. white (cool) roofs (high albedo), traffic areas intensive green roofs, trees, facade insulation or greening) affect temperatures. The results highlight that district less resilient efficacy on reduction open space depends daytime. Regarding conditions, our findings indicate larger share cooling effect not caused by air temperature but change physics changing surface reflectance roofs). White show largest reducing operative room more than 1 Kelvin. Our also demonstrate act as both, climate mitigation measures.
