Abstract While heat mitigation is crucial to achieving sustainable urban development, an inadequate understanding of the evolution thermal environment (UTE) and its relationship with socio-ecological systems (SESs) constrains development effective strategies. In this study, we use satellite observations from 2000–2021 explore evolving impact SES interactions on UTE 136 Chinese areas. The results reveal a nonlinear intensification over period indication that increasing number areas have successfully applied measures. Spatio-temporal patterns in are shown be strongly influenced by social ecological factors their interactions, whereby higher status, stronger decreasing trend. These findings highlight need for, advantages of, developing win-win solutions for society ecology important implications creating integrated strategies promoting sustainability.

Air pollution is a rising environmental concern that has detrimental effects on human health and the environment. Building environment urban green space features play crucial role in dispersion accumulation of air pollutants. This study examines impacts building levels highly urbanized city Hong Kong, focusing their interaction potential nonlinearity. For analysis, this paper investigates how density, height, types, size, number clusters, as well interplays, impact PM2.5 concentrations using high-resolution, satellite-based grids coupled with spatial analysis techniques. The findings reveal unit increase size standard deviation height contribute to 0.0004 0.0154 reduction PM levels, respectively. In contrast, are found be positively associated density (0.1117), scatteredness (0.0003), share commercial buildings (1.0158). Moreover, it been presents U-shape relationship concentrations. Finally, negative association between tends enlarged districts more low-rise buildings. conveys important planning implications.
