The ongoing progress of industrialization and urbanization has exacerbated the imbalance between carbon emissions absorption, leading to heightened risks climate change, such as frequent occurrences extreme weather events. Clarifying driving forces temporal–spatial evolution characteristics China’s balance holds significant theoretical value in understanding systemic nature patterns interaction absorption. We utilize provincial panel data from 2005 2021 China a spatial Durbin model explore spillover effects its influencing factors. results indicate gradual exacerbation over time. There exists spatially positive correlation pattern distribution. From 2010, intra-regional differences levels were contributor overall disparity, while 2011 2019, inter-regional played more substantial role. Given apparent phenomena population aggregation, industrial concentration, economic interdependence among provinces, changes size, growth, structure exacerbate level correlated regions. Conversely, due knowledge technology spillovers, improvements energy efficiency facilitated by flow production factors like capital aid governance associated areas. emphasize that local governments should focus on regional integration perspective strategically coordinate with neighboring provinces cities advance governance. findings provide support for effectively managing situation China.
