To address the challenges of twenty-first century, particularly negative effects climate change, mitigation measures such as Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are being employed. Vegetation, a part various NbS interventions, provides different ecosystem services that help combat current climate-related vulnerabilities. This research aims to illustrate connection between plants’ contribution adapting change and creation more sustainable spaces, focusing on usage bioretention systems (BRs) an example NbS. Some main aspects how vegetation is selected for BRs according qualities may contribute developing landscapes, along with providing key features adaptation, taxonomic data, specific plant species have been demonstrated be good candidates planting in BRs, also discussed. Therefore, importance this paper comprehensive systematization insightful suggestions future BR implementation.

Bioretention cells (BRCs) control stormwater flow on-site during precipitation, reducing runoff and improving water quality through chemical, physical, biological processes. While BRCs are effective in these aspects, they provide habitats for wildlife may face microbial hazards from fecal shedding, posing a potential threat to human health the nearby environment. However, limited knowledge exists regarding ability (e.g., beyond using typical indicator bacteria) biofiltration. Therefore, purpose of this study is characterize changes bacterial community urban undergoing bioretention treatment, with goal assessing public implications green infrastructure solutions. Samples BRC inflow outflow Columbus, Ohio, were collected post-heavy storms October 2021 March 2022. Conventional culture-based E. coli monitoring source tracking (MST) conducted identify major contamination extent its sources (i.e., human, canine, avian, ruminant). Droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) was utilized quantify level host-associated addition three antibiotic resistant genes (ARGs): tetracycline resistance gene (tetQ), sulfonamide (sul1), Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (bla

Weather extremes such as heavy rainfall and long periods of drought brought about by climate change put a strain on the environment people. Cities can counter these weather with blue-green infrastructure, usually focusing plant-based solutions. The ecosystem services plants offer added value to systems.
