Grapevine viruses: Did you say more than a hundred?

Abstract Grapevine virology is well rooted in history, with virus-like symptoms described the literature as early 18th century, and identification characterization of viruses associated viral diseases later half 20th century. At dawn 21st century progressive advent high-throughput sequencing methodologies followed by their rapid global adoption for virus discovery annotation metagenome, landscape grapevine has rapidly changed. Consequently, number novel identified grapevines ( Vitis spp.) exponentially increased over past decade a half. High-throughput also been elegantly used revisiting existence that had allegedly disease to only empirically rule it out bona fide grapevine.
